It’s hard to say exactly when the decision happened. I started attending Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco (where is reposed the body of St John) last week for the morning liturgy on the weekdays.
Uniatism is a compromise, a cognitive dissonance. Many would insist that we are orthodox, and even point out that some Orthodox churches commune uniates. However, thinking really hard that I am something does not make me that something. If I’m a dude, then no matter how hard I try to imagine and pretend I’m a lady, it will never come to pass that I will “transition”. It’s not enough to say the right things and believe the rights things, and even to do the right things… we must be members of the body of Christ. ONE, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.
Many uniates readily admit the Latins are heretics (and even apostates) yet, it doesn’t seem to hit home the sayings of the fathers and saints that, to be in communion with heretics is to share in their errors. We know that the so-called Roman Catholic is not the true church, so why do we pretend that we are on equal footing?
May God have mercy on all of us. And thanks be to the Holy, life-giving and undivided Trinity for Holy Orthodoxy, and for leading us into the bosom of salvation ☦️
